Pioneer Troop Introduction:

Pioneer Troop is one of two Scout Troops that meet at the 1st Wymondham Scout and Guide HQ. Pioneers meet on Friday nights during term time and most school holidays .

The Scout Troop is part of the 1st Wymondham Scout Group Family and is the third section a young person will join. Scouts normally join from our feeder Cub Pack (Nelson Pack) once they reach 10 and stay with us until they move on to Phoenix Explorers at 14.5. We also accept direct entries from young people (both boys and girls) in the 10-13 age range, please click here for further joining information.

The Troop operates a strong Patrol System with currently 5 Patrols each led by an older Scout who takes responsibility for leading their Patrol as well as contributing to the planning and running of Troop activities. All Scouts in the Troop join one of the Patrols where they learn many skills through working with other Scouts and participating in meetings, events and camps.

The adult Leadership of the Troop consists of a Scout Leader and three Assistant Scout Leaders. We are assisted by Young Leaders who are Explorer Scouts, aged 14-18, who are completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award or have been previous Scouts in the Troop. The Scout Leader (Dr Richard Horler) has been involved in Scouting as a Leader for 20 years and has been involved in Scouting in a number of different Troops and countries. All adults involved in Scouting have cleared DBS checks and undertaken training to suit their roles including First Aid courses for all section leaders.
