Family Camp 2018
Back after a year’s hiatus, this years Family camp was a frequently asked question by many parents eager to have another go at all the activities that the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts get to enjoy throughout Scouting.
So after some planning by myself, Ian and Sophie a date was confirmed, activities booked and tents pitched. We had over 100 young people and their parents, joined by almost the entire 1st Wymondham Scout Group Leadership over the weekend 2 – 3 June 2018 at our local Scout Activity Centre, Eaton Vale.
As the first Leader to arrive on site on Friday my job was a quick check of the site prior to grabbing some lunch at a nearby Public House (and a very nice roast it was). Then the afternoon was time spent setting up for the Pioneer Troop meeting that evening and checking activities for the weekend. Once more of the team arrived they quickly got the Marquee up and ready.
Families arrived early morning and got their own tents set up across a number of campsite pitches. The Opening Ceremony was held for the camp followed immediately by the first activity session and after lunch, we had 2 more activity sessions.
The activities this year included Archery, Crate Stacking, Pedal Karts, Glass sledging, Canoeing and Raft building.
We then held a BBQ and our Annual General Meeting
During the early evening, we had one more activity session followed by a campfire for everyone.
Another pair of activity sessions with some activities put on by the different Sections for everyone in addition to the on-site activities.
